Compliance Check VS. Alcohol Purchase Survey
Compliance Checks:
- Are conducted by a law enforcement agency
- May be targeted at businesses who are known for selling to minors
- Minors are used to attempt to purchase alcohol
- Retailers are written a citation or arrested for selling to the minor
THE GOAL: IF THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW, THEY RECEIVE A PENALTY
Alcohol Purchase Surveys:
- Are conducted by a concerned group of citizens (such as MADD Youth In Action team)
- Use youthful looking buyers that must be 21 or over
- Do not require an actual purchase to be made
- Retailers may be notified in writing if their establishment was going to sell or not but is not mandatory
